Car accidents involving alleged drunk driving can be fatal

A young mother tragically lost her life following a recent fiery collision in Texas. A drunk driver reportedly caused the fatal wrong-way car crash. When car accidents happen due to the negligent or reckless driving of other motorists, this is grounds for litigation in the Lone Star State.

According to authorities, a 31-year-old man was driving an SUV east in Interstate 20’s westbound lanes on a Sunday. All of a sudden, he allegedly sideswiped a car, which caused a massive chain-reaction collision. Police said he also hit another car head-on, causing it to strike a semitrailer.

The car that struck the semitrailer was carrying a 23-year-old woman who had a son, age 9 months. She was pronounced dead at the accident scene. The man who reportedly caused the wrong-way collision now faces charges of drunk driving and intoxication-related vehicular manslaughter.

The surviving loved ones of the woman who lost her life may choose to file a wrongful death claim against the man in a Texas civil court, seeking the reimbursement of monetary damages. If the man ends up being convicted regarding his drunk-driving-related charges, proof of the charges may be presented in a related civil court proceeding in an effort to establish liability on his part. A successfully litigated case might result in a monetary award that may help to address funeral costs and other losses tied to these types of car accidents. It may also be helpful for addressing pain and suffering as well as emotional distress resulting from the fatal collision.
