Left-turn car accidents may lead to injuries, death

On Behalf of | Aug 30, 2018 | Car Accident Injuries |

A girl’s life was cut short in a tragic motor vehicle wreck that recently occurred in Texas. The car accident occurred just a few moments after she took a picture for her first day of school. These types of car accidents sometimes happen due to the carelessness of a driver, in which case the driver may be held liable through the civil court system.

According to authorities, a 32-year-old woman was driving the girl, the girl’s brother and a 3-year-old child on the morning of the accident. All of a sudden, the car crashed into the pickup truck of an 18-year-old man. The crash apparently occurred when the man turned left and entered oncoming traffic.

When the two cars collided, the woman’s car ended up spinning clockwise and partially left the roadway. The girl was the only one who died in the collision. However, the girl’s brother suffered serious injuries and was transported to the hospital, where his condition was deemed critical in the intensive care unit.

As a general rule of thumb, when a driver is ready to make a left turn, he or she must yield to oncoming traffic. Left-turn drivers who fail to do this may be held accountable for any injuries or deaths that happen in a car accident as a result. In the situation of the recent accident, the family of the girl who died and the boy who was injured may decide to file a wrongful death claim and a personal injury claim against the pickup truck driver who tried to make the left turn, seeking damages. If the plaintiffs are successful, they may receive a monetary award that might help them to cover funeral expenses, hospital bills and other losses associated with these types of car accidents in Texas.
