Drunk driving car accidents may claim lives in Texas

On Behalf of | Jan 3, 2019 | Car Accident Injuries |

A man has sadly lost his life in a car crash in Texas, leaving his loved ones grieving over his loss and questioning how he could have been taken from them. The accident took place along the US 287 Highway. Sometimes, these types of car accidents occur due to the reckless driving of a fellow motorist, which is grounds for litigation.

The fatal collision took place at about 6:40 a.m. on the morning of New Year’s Day. According to authorities, a 46-year-old man was on an exit ramp, going to westbound Interstate Highway 20. A 35-year-old woman was also on the exit ramp.

All of a sudden, the woman reportedly left her lane and hit the man’s car, thus pushing the motor vehicle into a pillar made of concrete. The man ended up dying at the accident scene. The woman who allegedly hit him was found to have been driving under the influence at the time of the crash and therefore now faces a charge of intoxication manslaughter.

The surviving loved ones of the man who died in the Texas crash may opt to file a wrongful death claim against the woman, seeking damages. If the man is later convicted on his charge, proof of this conviction could be presented in civil court with the goal of establishing liability before the court. Only then will the court decide claims for monetary damages. A successfully litigated claim may result in monetary damages that might help with addressing burial costs and other losses associated with these kinds of car accidents.
