Car accidents involving semitrailers are often fatal

A woman and three of her children were killed recently in a tragic Texas motor vehicle crash. Many car accidents result from a driver’s carelessness. In those circumstances, the driver may be held financially responsible through the civil court system.

The recent Texas crash took place in the westbound lanes of Interstate 10. According to police, a semitrailer crashed into a pickup truck and a car. Several motor vehicles ended up catching fire as a result of the accident.

The woman who died in the crash was 36. Her children who died were ages 6, 8 and 10. Three other individuals happened to be in their motor vehicle at the time of the accident as well. A hazardous material spill also occurred a result of the wreck.

If the police’s investigation of the Texas accident reveals that the semitrailer driver caused the collision, the surviving loved ones of the four parties who died in the crash may choose to file wrongful death claims against the truck driver. The employer of the truck driver could also be sued. Competent proof of negligence — such as driving too quickly for road conditions or texting while behind the wheel — is necessary to establish liability in civil court. Once liability has been established, claims for damages will be decided. A monetary damage award in a case that is litigated successfully may help with covering burial expenses, the loss of income for surviving dependents and other losses stemming from these types of car accidents in the Lone Star State.
