Defective products include fire extinguishers, stake lights

The recent recalls of multiple products may impact consumers in Texas. These products include millions of fire extinguishers. Stake lights are also among the many defective products being recalled.

Regarding the fire extinguishers, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission reported that 40 million extinguishers may not work in emergency situations due to becoming clogged, or because the nozzles may come off. So far, one death has reportedly taken place due to the Kidde extinguishers. Specifically, in 2014, extinguishers did not work for emergency personnel who were attempting to squelch a blaze following a car accident. The recall impacts more than 130 models from 1973 to 2017.

For the stake lights, more than 8,000 Moonrays brand lights are being recalled because items that make contact with the lights can melt or singe, thus potentially leading to a fire. Nine reports have been made regarding incidents associated with the lights, such as damage to house siding, grass and deck posts. Injuries have not been reported.

When products feature defects, they can cause serious injuries or even death in Texas. Those who use defective products and suffer harm as a result may be entitled to file product liability claims against the makers of these items, seeking the reimbursement of damages. Claims for damages will be adjudicated only if liability can be established, based upon a showing of negligence, before the civil court hearing the case. Monetary damages can help to address emotional distress and pain and suffering in addition to covering medical costs and other monetary losses tied to using a defective product.
