Fatal car accidents may stem from driving while intoxicated

A high school graduate recently lost his life in a tragic Texas motor vehicle crash. The driver believed responsible now faces manslaughter and driving while intoxicated charges. These types of fatal car accidents are often the result of a driver’s negligent or reckless behavior, in which case the driver may be held financially accountable for any injuries or deaths that occur as a result.

The accident occurred on a Friday at an intersection. A 59-year-old woman was reportedly speeding in a car that then left the roadway and struck cars going south. She allegedly ended up hitting and killing the 19-year-old graduate in the process.

At the time of the accident, two current students were with the young man who was killed. They suffered injuries and were transported to the hospital. Meanwhile, the 59-year-old woman who reportedly struck them was arrested for driving while intoxicated as well as manslaughter. The woman, who previously worked as police department dispatcher, was jailed on a bond of $120,000.

The surviving loved ones of the teenager who died in the Texas crash may choose to file a wrongful death claim against the woman, seeking the reimbursement of damages associated with these types of car accidents. In addition, the two injured victims may file personal injury claims against her. If the woman ends up being convicted in criminal court, proof of the conviction may be presented in civil court in an effort to establish liability before the court hearing the case. Once that is accomplished, financial damage claims will be decided.
