Fatal car accidents may stem from drunk driving

The lives of a woman and her infant were tragically cut short in a Texas motor vehicle collision. A driver who may have been intoxicated at the time reportedly caused the crash. When these types of car accidents happen, the surviving loved ones of the deceased have the right to seek justice.

The accident occurred on a recent Wednesday. At about 4 a.m., a sport utility vehicle reportedly rear-ended a car with the woman and baby inside. The woman, age 36, and the baby, 3 months old, both passed away in the collision. The husband of the woman said his wife was probably headed to get breakfast for the couple when the crash took place, as he works the night shift. The woman was on maternity leave at the time of the accident.

A 20-year-old woman was driving the sport utility vehicle and a 17-year-old girl was in the front passenger seat. They both suffered injuries and were transported to a medical center. The driver was then taken into custody for intoxication manslaughter (two counts). A bond amount of $30,000 was listed for her.

The family members of the mother and baby who died in Texas may choose to file wrongful death claims against the alleged drunk driver, seeking the reimbursement of damages associated with these types of car accidents. If the driver who was arrested ends up being convicted of her charges, proof of the conviction may be presented in a related civil court proceeding to establish liability before the court hearing the case. Once liability is formally established in civil court, claims for documented damages will be decided.
